Siaya Senator James Orengo's plan to impeach Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has been the topic of political discussion recently.
Ruto's supporters have dismissed the plan stating that its 'dead on arrival', claiming that Orengo will find it tough raising the numbers required to make such an impeachment motion succeed.
Political analyst Professor Herman Manyora through his YouTube Channel has, however, warned the DP's camp not to be too sure that Orengo cannot get the necessary numbers to make the impeachment possible.
"The Ruto side says 'bring it on'(the impeachment debate). Nobody enjoys a vote of no confidence being brought their way because on the day of the vote anything could happen to tip the scales against you," the analyst said.
Prof Manyora further noted that during an impeachment debate, a lot of dirt comes out and therefore those in Ruto's camp should not think they will easily win the debate.
Regarding the numbers, Manyora noted that in as much as those in the DP's team believe that the 233 minimum threshold cannot be achieved, they should tip the question as ask themselves if they can convince 100 plus members to vote against the impeachment.
"Many people have argued you cannot impeach Ruto because you cannot get 233 votes, why don't we tip the argument and ask ourselves can Ruto command a hundred plus members of Parliament to defeat that debate?" Manyora posed.
According to the Prof, assuming every Member of Parliament turns up on the day of voting, it won't be easy for Ruto to command over one-third of votes required to make such an impeachment motion null and void.
