Police officers are investigating a suspected case of suicide where a police officer was found dead by his colleagues at Kenyerere Police Post in Itumbe area, Bobasi Sub-County in Kisii County on Thursday morning.
The officers who discovered the body of Mr Richard Kiptoo were responding to gunshots when they found their colleague lying in a pool of blood.
The late Kiptoo had allegedly locked himself in the room forcing the officers to break down the door.
An AK 47 gun which was loaded with 48 rounds of ammunition together with two spent cartridges were recovered from the scene of the crime.
"Mr Kiptoo had reported for duty on Thursday morning and was issued with the ammunition which he was to use in his work. But it appears he went into his house with them," said Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet as quoted by Daily Nation.
Kibet further pointed out that the body of the deceased had two gunshots which corresponds with the two spent cartridges that were recovered.
"The officer had two gun shots on the chest and chin," noted the police boss.
The body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where an autopsy will be conducted.
