A man is currently fighting for his life at a local hospital in Kenyenya, Kisii County after he was beaten up by a liquor seller.

It is alleged that Charles Matayo was attacked by a notorious chang'aa seller Pius Manoti at Gekonge village in Bosoti, Kenyenya on Thursday morning. 

Area assistant chief Okemwa Machuka said Matayo was hit from the back of his head with a blunt object. 

"Matayo failed to pay Sh50 after he consumed illicit liquor. Manoti picked a blunt object which he used to hit the victim," he said.

Mr. Machuka said Manoti chased locals who had gathered at his home to consume chang'aa after the attack. 

"The suspect has gone into hiding but, we are tracing him. He must be arrested to face the full force of the law and we are treating this as an assault," he added. 

The chief said the victim was rushed to a local hospital where is fighting for his life. 

"The victim is responding well to medication," he noted.

He assured that illicit brew dealers won't be spared in the village.
