Last year on 9th March, the news of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga caught many by surprise, including close allies to the two by then.
At that time, the political temperatures in the country were almost at boiling point as there were two 'Presidents', The President of Kenya in Uhuru Kenyatta and the Peoples President in Raila Odinga.
The handshake was embraced by the citizens and political temperature really cooled to a point the economy started booming, however later it also had its challenges especially the dissatisfaction of politicians allied to DP Ruto over how things are unfolding.
The details of the handshake remain a mystery to many people, several theories have been said but all are speculative.
Speaking in Nairobi on the handshake's first anniversary 9th March 2019 in a meeting of women leaders under the group 'Embrace' at Serena Hotel in Nairobi, the Former Prime minister insisted that the handshake was agreed to bring unity for Kenyans and end the political hatred that has been seen in the country over years.
He said that they (President Uhuru and him) wanted to leave a good legacy in the country and there is nothing personal they want to gain as reported by the Nation.
"We are not in this because there is something we want to gain from it," Raila said during the meeting.
The ODM party leader highlighted the chaos that arose from 2007,2013 and 2017 general elections insisting such chaos should not happen again in Kenya.
Raila also said the current fight for corruption does not target any community or individual, highlighting the benefits of big four agenda and the journey to 'Cannan via 'Building Bridges Initiative'.
