As part of strengthening military cooperation, The Chief of the Naval Staff of the Pakistan Navy Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi led a delegation from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on a visit to the Kenya Defence Forces Headquarters on Wednesday.

Admiral Zafar Abbasi, an experienced war commander, and his team were received by the Chief of the Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe who was accompanied by Vice Chief of the Defence Forces Lieutenant General Robert Kibochi.

In line with military traditions, Admiral Abbasi was accorded a half guard parade by a contingent of 17 Kenya Rifles backed up by Kenya Army Band.

The Pakistani team thereafter visited Defense Secretary Raychelle Omamo where they held a discussion on military cooperation between the two countries.

Present during the event were the Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General Walter Raria,the Commander Kenya Air Force Major General Francis Ogolla and theCommander Kenya Navy Major General Franklin Levi Mghalu.

Others were Assistant Chief of Defence forces, Personnel and Logistics Major General Fatma Ahmed, outgoing Defence Principal Secretary Mr Torome Saitoti, senior military officers and officers.

The visit comes at the time KDF is involved in an active war against Al-Shabaab in Somalia, an engagement that has led to death of a number of soldiers in the last decade.

Pakistani, despite being a Middle East country, has never faced serious terrorism threat like neighbouring Iraq, Syria and even Yemen. But in 2011, chief terrorism Osama Bin Laden was hooked by US from hideout in the country.

KDF is partnering with other friendly nations to learn new war techniques as part of combating threats. On Wednesday, KDF troops and Ambassador Omamo, also met outgoing UK High Commissioner Nick Hailey.
