Nominated Senator Issac Mwaura has poured cold water on a planned motion by Siaya Senator James Orengo seeking to have Deputy President William Ruto impeached.
Mwaura says it will not be easy for Orengo to convince MPs to support the motion.
The vocal Senator argues that Orengo needs serious grounds to have his motion sail through.
Speaking on Citizen TV's Day Break show on Monday, Mwaura said that Orengo first needs to convince at least two-thirds of MPs that he has enough grounds to have Ruto impeached.
"Orengo must also convince the special committee of the Senate that allegations he is citing against the Deputy President warrant his impeachment," the nominated Senator said.
Senator Mwaura further observed that Orengo must, through the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, give DP Ruto an opportunity to defend himself.
He argues that Ruto can decide to defend himself or not in the House.
According to the Senator, the decision on whether to impeach Deputy President can be made by the Senate.
In this case, Mwaura argues that two-thirds of Senators must support the motion.
Senator Orengo says he has sufficient grounds to initiate Ruto's impeachment.
The Senator is citing alleged misconduct on the part of the Deputy President on matters graft, one of the reasons Orengo has to have DP Ruto impeached.
Orengo has been calling for DP Ruto to resign alleging that he is hindering the renewed fight against graft.
The vocal ODM Senator is also calling for Ruto to record a statement with Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) over the alleged Sh21 Billion Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.
It is not the first time Orengo is initiating an impeachment motion against an executive office holder.
In 1998, Orengo who was then Ugenya MP initiated a motion to impeach retired President Daniel Arap Moi.
The motion flopped as it failed to garner the required two-thirds support.
