A junior administration police officer has been arraigned before the High Court in Nanyuki, to answer to charges of killing his boss.
Constable Patrick Marwa was charged for allegedly shooting and killing his boss Senior Sergeant Duncan Cheruiyot, on May 4, this year.
The court heard that the accused person committed the offence at the Administration Police Line Two in Maralal, Samburu County.
Reports indicate that Marwa shot his boss eight times using a G3 riffle, after learning that he was set to be transferred to another station.
Following his arrest, ten bullets, eight used cartridges and the G3 rifle were recovered from the scene by the police.
The accused, however, denied the charges and requested to be released on bail pending the next case hearing.
Justice Hatari Waweru granted the bail application after the state did not object, directing that he be released on a bond of Sh500,000 with two sureties of a similar amount.
“I have perused the witness statements and other documentary evidence, copies of which have been supplied to the accused and to the court by the prosecution. I cannot find any compelling reason there to deny the accused bail,” said Justice Waweru.
The case will be heard on February 17, 2020.
