The county government of Nairobi announced on Monday a 50 percent increment in the parking fees for motorists within Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
According to The County Director of Parking Services Tom Tinega, the new parking fees is as a result of the Finance Act 2019.
“Kindly note that you will be required to top up the parking fee payment if migrating to a zone with a higher charge as will be applicable,” a notice dated December 2, 2019 reads.
As of December 4, the cost of parking in Nairobi CBD will be Sh200 more than the initial fee which brings the new fee to Sh400.
The county government has categorised the parking areas into three zones.
The first zone which has been named Zone 1 will include the City Centre and Kijabe Street. The parking fees per day in this zone will be sh400.
Zone 2 will include Westlands, Upperhill, Community, Ngara, Highridge, Industrial area, Gigiri, Kilimani, Yaya Centre, Allsops, Mwiki, Dagoretti, Kawangware, Kangemi, South B, South C, Nairobi West,Lang’ata, Madaraka, Makadara, Buru Buru, Umoja, Kayole, Embakasi, Donholm, Muthaiga, Milimani, Hurlingham, Lavington, Karen and Eastleigh.
The parking fees in these areas will be Sh200.
Zone 3 will include other areas which have not been highlighted with the parking fees going for Sh100.
Private vehicles, on the other hand, will be charged Sh7,000 for one month, Sh18,000 for three months, Sh32,000 for six months and Sh55,000 for a year.Motorists to pay Sh400 for parking in Nairobi CBD
