Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has waded into the Kibra parliamentary battle announcing his preferred candidate.
Moi on Thursday declared his support for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) flag bearer, Imran Okoth, during the November 7 polls.
The KANU national chairman said he backed Imran in the spirit of March 9, 2018, handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
“It is important to come out strongly and show our support to the ODM candidate in the spirit of the handshake,” he said.
Moi's endorsement is a major boost for Imran who has also been backed by a section of Jubilee politicians allied to the Kieleweke faction led by Nominated Member of Parliament Maina Kamanda.
The ODM candidate, who is brother to immediate area MP the late Ken Okoth, is expected to face stiff competition from McDonald Mariga of Jubilee party, whose campaigns are being led by Deputy President William Ruto.
Others who threat to wrestle the Kibra seat from the Raila-led party are; Eliud Owalo of Musalia Mudavadi's ANC and Khamisi Butichi of Ford-Kenya.
Speaking at the party's headquarter in Nairobi during a meeting of KANU Youth Congress (KYC), Moi instructed Secretary General Nick Salat to send a high-level campaign team to Kibra to ensure Imran wins with a landslide.
The vocal senator said Nominated Senator Abshiro Halake and other KANU leaders were on the campaign trail drumming up support for the ODM candidate.
