A man angrily attacked his neighbour on Thursday over allegations he had poisoned his three cows.
Obed Nyamosi who hails from Nyabitunwa village, Kenyenya constituency in Kisii County claimed that his neighbour, Linus Barongo has been jealous of him for over 5 years now.
He said that Barongo has in the past thrown fits of jealousy at his success in having cattle.
“Barongo has been jealous. He has been chasing my chickens from his farm and cows when they trespass. He found the cows grazing at the roadside where I had tied them and put poison in water before he gave the cows to drink,” said Nyamosi.
Nyamosi said when he went to pick up the cows, he found them lying down in pain and their stomachs were swollen.
“Children who were playing told me that they saw Barongo giving the cows water. I went to his home and questioned him why he gave water to my cows without my knowledge. I attacked him with blows when he answered me rudely,” he noted.
Fredrick Manyara, area assistant chief confirmed the incident and said the cows died due to poisoning.
“It is sad that Barongo gave Nyamosi’s cows water which he had poisoned. The cows could not survive and they were being milked. They died and left behind 3-months-old calves each,” said Manyara.
A local veterinary officer, Protus Oucho said samples were taken from the carcasses to establish the type of poison the cows were given.
Oucho warned locals against consuming the poisoned meat saying they will endanger their lives.
