Kitui county boss Kaluki Ngilu and Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa yesterday witnessed the signing of Sh.36.9 billion Thwake Multipurpose Dam in the national and county government seek to end the problem of water shortage. The project, which was unveiled during Ngilu’s tenure as the minister for Water and irrigation, is expected to transform the lives of the residents from this part of the nation upon completion. The project is located at the confluence of Athi and Thwake River.

The signing of the agreement, which took place at Maji House, was overseen by different personalities including China Gezhouba Group Company representative and CS Wamalwa. Others who were present included Makueni Deputy Governor Ms Adelina Mwau Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo and Mbooni MP Erastus Kivasu.  According to Wamalwa, the project will take five years, and will enable the irrigation of 4000 hectares of land upon completion.

. “The dam will measure 77m high, 28km by length and will have 610 cubic volume of water “said Mr Wamalwa, as quoted by a local daily.

The project will be benefit residents of Machakos, Kitui and Makueni among other parts of the region.
