Retired President Daniel Moi backed Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's push for unity and equity among Kenyan communities, the ODM leader has said.
For the better part of the weekend, Joho spent in the greater Rift Valley, a region believed to be DP William Ruto's stronghold.
"We are tired of having a nation of few individuals. My prayer is to see children from the minority and marginalised areas vying for presidency and other positions," said Joho, in reference to a referendum to adopt parliamentary government.
He added: "It does not mean that you have to come from a certain community or a particular party to become president."
Mr. Joho, who serves as Raila Odinga's deputy, added that his meeting with elder Moi focused on pushing his 2022 presidential ambitions.
"We had some talks with retired President Moi and I must tell you that it helped in my journey to unite Kenyans because that is what he insisted I do."
Just before the Kabarak meeting, Joho had met Baringo Senator Gidion Moi in Mombasa, sparking heated debate on a possible alliance in 2022.
The ODM deputy leader has been facing rebellion in the Coast with a host of legislators diverting their attention to William Ruto, an outright opponent of Odinga's and Moi.
