Footballer McDonald Mariga's win in Kibra by-election could be significant especially in the western part of the country.
The Jubilee party candidate is widely viewed as Deputy President William Ruto's project in Kibra despite President Uhuru Kenyatta's endorsement.
His win could influence the Luhya community in the country since it could be a win for their son. The win could mean a lot for the community as far as 2022 politics is concerned.
One, it could make the voters from the Western feel that their prefered candidates do not necessarily need ODM leader Raila Odinga's endorsement in order to win an election away from home.
It has been a tradition that without Odinga's endorsement, it is always hard for a Luhya to win an election away from home.
The win could also influence their support to DP Ruto since it is said that Mariga is his project.
Mariga's win could also be a blow to ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangula whose parties have their preferred candidates in the coming Kibra elections.
This could show how DP Ruto, who they see as their threat in the coming elections is more powerful and thus the western voters could heavily support his presidential ambition in 2022.
Western voters will also learn that in order to win big in a heavily contested election, one needs support from other communities and not their's alone.
It is only Mariga's win in Kibra that could trigger the above-stated statements.
