Some of the conditions that lead to skin redness could be temporary or permanent, with minor or major health implications. It is, however, important to contact your doctor when you think the condition is life-threatening.

Here are three conditions that cause skin redness.

1. Having drug allergy

Some people's skin reacts once they take certain drugs. This results in the formation of mild, itchy red patches on the skin immediately or days after taking the drugs. Severe drug allergies deserve urgent medical attention as they can cause difficulty in breathing and can be life-threatening.

2. Heat rash

This involves irritation of the skin as a result of exposure to hot or humid conditions. This mostly occurs where the skin folds example in the groin area and the elbows. The skin, in turn, develops red itchy patches and raised pimples that disappear once the conditions become favourable.

3. Sunburn

This is a common cause of red skin and results from spending too much time in the sun without protection. The strong ultraviolet rays damage the tissues and this makes blood to be directed to the damaged tissue to repair it thus it appears red.
