Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has termed Kofi Annan's death as 'terrible' loss to the world.
The former UN Secretary General died on Saturday morning at Geneva, Switzerland after a short illness.
Speaking to Citizen TV, Raila recounted how Annan helped Kenya avert post election violence of 2007/08 that saw over 1,300 people lose their lives.
"This is a terrible loss not only to African but also to the rest of the world.
"In 2008, he helped Kenya end post election violence. He is an enigma and his death is tragic to the entire world."
Deputy President William Ruto termed Annan's death as unimaginable adding that it is a big loss to international community.
"Here is a photo of Annan at Serena. This country will never forget the role he played in restoring peace," he said.
During the crisis, Raila added, Annan ensured full implementation of the peace deal that saw Kenya embrace grand coalition government.
He served as UN chief from 1996- 2006 before handing over to Ban Ki Moon.
Mr. Annan also won the lucrative Nobel Peace Prize on humanitarian work he did as envoy.
