An Administration Police (AP) Inspector attached to Kahawa West AP post will be detained for 15 days after a request by the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) was accepted by a Nairobi court.
Wilfred Kipkemei Maiyo was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sending blogger Robert Alai, gory photos of police officers who died in an attack in Wajir.
Appearing before Magistrate Sinkiyian Tobiko, Maiyo pleaded with the court to release him on bond terms.
He argued that he has no intentions of missing court sessions, since he presented himself to the ATPU when he was called up on to do so.
Maiyo further noted that some of the officers killed in Wajir were his friends, adding that he needed time to mourn them.
According to the prosecution, preliminary investigation indicates that the officer was in contact with Alai.
The report also alleges that the officer could have had other associates who helped him get photos from the ground.
The prosecution argued that Maiyo should be detained, on grounds that he could interfere with witnesses in the case.
“Due to the nature of the respondent’s possible involvement in the planning of the terror attack, it shows they have the capacity and muscle to interfere with investigations, arrest of the associates and interfere with possible witnesses,” the prosecution said in part.
