Residents of Isena village in Nyacheki, Kisii County are mourning the death of a Form Two male student who killed himself on Friday after a disagreement with his father.
Area assistant chief Jared Ombui said the deceased, Mark Oenga committed suicide after his father locked him inside his house.
"The deceased has been stealing family property which he sells to use the money to gamble. He refused to return to school for third term and attempts by his parents to have him return to school did not yield fruits," said the chief as reported by Egesa FM.
The chief said the deceased was locked up inside his house after he threatened to consume poison only for him to hang himself using a leso.
"His lifeless body was found hanging from the roof of his house by his father who went to open for him. The death has left not only family members in shock but also villagers," he noted.
Kisii Assistant Police Commander Caleb Matoke said the body was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
"Cases of young people killing themselves are on the rise. There is need for parents, church members to counsel youths to curb unnecessary deaths," said Matoke.
