Nyasembe youth Polytechnic in South Mugirango, Kisii County on Wednesday received a donation of Sh200,000 to purchase learning equipment.
The institution received the donation from Fred Okindo Foundation.
Speaking during the event the foundation chairman Fred Okindo said he took the bold step to donate the money to the institution because learners have been dropping out due to lack of learning equipment.
"We want our youths who fail to attain university grades to enrol in local polytechnics so that they can acquire skills in various fields to prepare them in the market," he said.
He urged the institution management to use the funds to purchase learning equipment for learners to use.
"The money should be spent wisely to benefit learners. In the future we want to have more people graduating from the institution with various qualifications in different fields," he added.
Okindo challenged local leaders to prioritize education.
"Parents should ensure their children are enrolled in local polytechnics to gain more technical skills. We don't want to have useless youths in villages idling or engaging in illegal activities," he stated.
