In his first visit to Kisumu since the dramatic handshake with veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, President Uhuru received a hero's reception, an indication that the tensions of the 2017 election are dissipating.
The head of state had the opportunity to address Kisumu residents through the sunroof of his vehicle.
In his address, he promised that he would not leave Raila Odinga behind and that the two would work together in building a corruption-free, inclusive Kenya.
"I have told my brother that I will not leave him behind. We will walk together. We will traverse Kenya together and preach unity," he said to a rapturous applause.
President Uhuru was in the backyard of his erstwhile political adversary as part of the building bridges initiative.
Kisumu was ravaged by tensions after Raila Odinga withdrew from the rerun of the 2017 presidential contest, decrying a scheme to rig elections.
The unity that the two projected in Kisumu Thursday was a departure from the post-election tensions.
Also in tow was Deputy President William Ruto.
