Kisii senator Prof Sam Ongeri is a man with a big heart, Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho said.
Appearing before the Senate Dovulition committee over political fights in Mombasa County pitting him against the MCAs, the county boss got emotional at one moment as he thanked Ongeri.
“Senator and I were once travelling to a foreign country then my mother fell ill four hours after take-off and we had nowhere to turn to. Senator Ongeri quickly came through for us and looked after my mother till we landed in Dubai where we sent her to hospital,” Joho said.
He said he had not gotten an opportunity to thank the seasoned politician.
“Senator, I’ve never been able to thank you enough; I always pray for you,” said an emotional Joho.
The county boss did not, however, reveal what was ailing her mother and her current health status after the incident.
Joho has been at loggerheads with MCAs as they accuse him and his brother Abu Joho of siphoning county resources.
He dismissed allegations of misusing public coffers.
“We are not in a position to respond to political hearsay. As a senate, you have the mandate to defend devolution. Unfortunately, I do not know where you have picked that information from," Joho said.
