Speaking during the Annual Malindi Education day celebrations at Barani Secondary School on Saturday, Jumwa said that it was unfortunate that the number of girls dropping out of school after getting pregnant has been increasing on an annual basis.

She said that the county government has to put in place stern measures to ensure that girls and boys in schools are not engaging in sex before completing education.

The lawmaker also said that cases of girls falling in love for Bodaboda operators and other persons have been rampant in the county only for them to end up pregnant.

He said both girls and boys need to be punished once it is proven that they have engaged in sex and led to pregnancy.

‘‘Whoever is taken to court in cases of teenage pregnancy is a boy, the law cuts both sides; all girls and boys should be arrested if we want to solve the problem,’’ Jumwa said as quoted by Citizen Digital.

The vocal MP also said that the police need to know men behind the pregnancies in the county so that they can be arrested and charged.
