Speaking to members of the press on Monday, the tough-talking CS said that all the children at the school had been asked to stay at home so that investigations to establish the full circumstances of the tragedy can be carried out.

He added that the Ministry of Education would then give an informed way forward after the tragedy.

"We have consulted and agreed that all the children should rest until next Monday during which time investigations will have been done, buildings reinspected again thoroughly by professionals, then we will give an informed advice...” Magoha said as quoted by a Citizen TV tweet.

His intervention comes amid public shock over the collapse of the school that claimed the lives of 7 pupils.

The CS said that the law might have been flouted in the construction of the building that caved in on the pupils.

According to Magoha, the school's administration never sought permission to add another storey on the ill-fated building.

There was confusion at the school's premises when news of the tragedy was reported with parents of the children wailing.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga conveyed their condolences to the families of the victims.
