It is an important question as it will have a bearing on his 2022 chances.

In a live simulcast on Kameme, the DP weighed in on the prospect of his running mate being a woman.

He said that any woman who wishes to be bestowed with the honour of being his running mate will have to demonstrate her ability and to slug it out with men.

"Even if it will be a woman it has to be somebody who is well-prepared has the ability. They will not be given just because they are women. They will have to face it out with men until we get to know who has the ability, " Ruto said.

The Jubilee deputy party leader who has been traversing the country in a bid to bolster his chances has not yet announced who will be his running mate.

Already, he has received a number of offers.

Western Kenya region leaders asked the DP earlier this year to pick Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi as his running mate.

Central Kenya leaders have also asked him to chose a running mate from the region.
