The Thursday raid revealed a criminal dealing where suspects allegedly steal cars and hide them at a compound pending dismantling.

The officers recovered 7 cars suspected to have been stolen and stored pending being dismantled and disposed of as spare parts.

Confirming the discovery, Eldoret West police boss Zacharia Bittok said that his officers have since launched a probe into the issue.

Bittok added that the raid came after a tipoff by the public.

“We have launched investigations into the syndicate. We have reliable leads which are likely to help us to arrest this particular suspect," he was quoted by the Daily Nation.

Number plates including those from the neighboring Uganda, vehicle documents, tyres and a jerk were also recovered during the operation.

This comes at a time when area residents have been decrying increasing crime levels and more criminal gangs that have been troubling them.

Car owners and matatu operators have also reported cases of car thefts, one involving a 2NK Sacco matatu in October last year.

This has also been acknowledged by County Commissioner Abdi Hassan who has, however, warned that the criminals will be dealt with.

"We have realised any crime in this county has been associated with bodaboda and we banned the operators from operating beyond 11 pm until 5 am. All of the operators must be registered with my office and the county government," Hassan said
