144 students in Secondary and Higher learning institutions from Kangonde and Masinga Wards in Machakos County have benefited from Bursary Fund.

The Funds are said to have been contributed by area residents headed by the area MCA Joshua Mwonga through a Harambee which was carried out in the area.

Speaking when he distributed the funds at Mikuyuni Market on Monday, MCA Mwonga who is also the Majority Leader in the Machakos County Assembly promised to foresee the project continue to benefit all the students from his Ward.

Mwonga has also called on parents and education stakeholders in the area to support the programme which he believe will help improve education standards in the area.

“Today we have distributed bursaries to 144 students where every students got Sh5,120 which is a good initiative and I am calling on my people from all the eight locations in Masinga Ward to unite so that we can have a programme like this one we have had at Mikuyuni location,” said Mwonga.

Addressing the parents at the Market, Mwonga also asked them not to keep their children at home after they are done with class eight saying that secondary education and higher education is very key in every child's future.

“I calling on parents not to keep their children at home after standard eight or form four due to lack of fees. It is wiser to organise for an Harambee involving businesspeople and other leaders. We will come to help contribute money to take children to their next level of education,” advised Mwonga.

The MCA at the same time called on the area residents to support the Machakos County government led by Dr. Alfred Mutua and to keep praying for their governor to have good leadership skills and wisdom.
