The Speaker of the Nation Assembly Justin Muturi declared the gender bill a flop after parliament failed to raise the requisite number of legislators for the bill to be passed.
The loss of the gender bill is now a big blow to the female politicians who have been advocating for equality in representation and wanted the number of female legislators appointed to be increased.
The house raised 174 members which is below the 233 requisite number required for a Constitutional (amendment) Bill to be voted for.
The house required atleast 233 members to pass the bill but only managed to have less than expected by law.
"Manual counting has confirmed that there are only 174 Members in the chamber. This number, however, does not meet the threshold required to undertake the vote on this bill," the National Assembly confirmed in a statement.
The gender bill was crucial in line with the constitutional requirement that states not more than two-thirds of the same gender should be appointed or elected to an office.
Out of the 76 female MPs only 31 were present in Parliament when the bill was to be passed since it was in its second reading.
The bill was sponsored by the Majority leader Aden Duale as the government bill.
