Police in Narok are investigating an incident where an Administration Police (AP) officer was lynched by the public when making an arrest on Wednesday.
The officer attached to Sagutiek AP Camp in Narok North was responding to calls from a landlord who had reported a tenant who had defaulted in rent payment.
According to Narok County Commander Adan Yunis, the policeman was confronted by members of the public while headed to the landlord's plot to arrest the suspect.
“He was in his lawful duties escorting a landlord to his plot when members of the public turned against him, beating him with crude weapons that killed him on the spot," Yunis told the Standard.
The police boss added that one suspect is already in police custody over the incident that happened in Sagutiek area.
He said the crowd used crude weapons to kill the officer who was armed at the time of the incident.
The police boss added that the police are doing their all to bring the remaining suspects to book.
"We are promising that no stone shall be left unturned until we ensure that all those behind this heinous act are arrested and charged,” he was further quoted.
Yunis condemned the act, urging members of the public to desist turning against people putting their lives at risk to protect their lives.
The body of the deceased was moved to the Narok County Hospital pending an autopsy.
