Awiti fell sick weeks after returning from medical leave. The family decided to transfer him from Aga Khan Kisumu for further treatment. Medics have confirmed that he is in a stable condition.

The ODM Governor fell ill while he was attending a function at his backyard on June 27 before the family rushed him to hospital for treatment.

Awiti, who had travelled to Germany to seek medical treatment, surfaced with a warning to his critics.  Awiti reminded the critics that he is not eyeing any post in 2022.

“I will report you to government authorities if you destroy any county project. You will be arrested, charged and imprisoned," he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

He reminded those fighting him that their actions were affecting his performance scoreboard and you mean well.

“I am not after any seat [come] 2022," he added. "My term will end and I will go home. Let no one talk ill about me as if we are competing for a political seat."

He left his Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata and  County Secretary Isaiah Ogwe in charge of the county affairs during the period he was away.
