Disgruntled former Jubilee vice chair David Murathe says he will explore three possible options to block Deputy President William Ruto from contesting in 2022 polls.

Mr Murathe, who resigned on Sunday, caused a storm within the ruling party which is yet to be controlled, four days after his dramatic exit.

In an interview with KTN News, Murathe said his first option is to move to Supreme Court to seek interpretation of 148 (5) of the constitution.

"Presidency is a pair. The DP can perform functions of the president and that's a fact. If one serves two terms, then they should retire. If that applies to president then it must apply to DP," he said.

Further, he added: "If that can't work, we shall push that to be included in the referendum. We must ensure we are fair to all Kenyans. He must retire in harness."

However, should the matter be passed through the referendum, then the question on whether or not it should be applied retroactively might arise.

But for Murathe, should the above options fail, then he will be forced to mobilise those against Ruto's presidency to pull out of Jubilee and form new alliances.

"Very many people are of this idea only that they don't want to speak. We can form another coalition. We have very many willing parties out there."
