While addressing a section of Abagusii community in Kibra on Friday, Mr Odinga lamented that the slum upgrading project was slowed down by Mr  Waititu.

Raila said that despite former Vice President Moody Awori giving him a piece of land to facilitate the projects, Waititu rushed to court to block the process.

The case, he said, went in for two years before it was ruled in his favour in 2011, forcing him to start the project few years before his exit from goverment.

"Moody Awori gave us land for decanting. We relocated people to the other side but Waititu rushed to court and blocked us. We won the case and started the project late," he said.

Despite the frustrations, Odinga added, he was able to launch the project with retired President Mwai Kibaki. Few people benefited from the programme.

Mr Odinga took a swipe at DP William Ruto, wondering why he cannot upgrade the slum given that he's still in government.

Last week, Deputy President William Ruto said the Jubilee goverment will upgrade the slum once McDonald Mariga wins Kibra by-election.

“The Jubilee government will ensure that of the 500,000 new houses to be constructed, the people of Kibra will get a chance to own some of them,” said Ruto.
