A family in Baringo County is mourning after a form three student hanged herself on Monday morning at around 5:00 am after allegedly killing her baby.
The late Lucy Chelimo is reported to have killed her 6-month-old baby approximately two days before taking her life.
The neighbours claim the baby disappeared on Monday and the 16-year-old girl could not provide a comprehensive explanation on the whereabouts of the child.
Reports indicate that the student at Kapkiamo Secondary School may have been frustrated after her mother refused to look after the baby as she continued with school.
The father of the deceased seemed to agree that the mother's refusal to take care of the baby may have affected her.
"She told her mother to watch over the baby for her but the mother refused. I think this matter affected the girl.
(Alimwambia mama utanishikia mtoto anasema apana siwezi shika mtoto. Mimi nafikiri hiyo kitu tena ina affect huyu msichana)," Charles Chelimo, the father of the girl stated.
Charles Chelimo is also the one who discovered the lifeless body of her daughter hanging from the tree.
Police arrived at the scene and exhumed the body of the infant.
The mother of the deceased was blamed for not accepting to help out her daughter.
