Naivasha, is a town found in Nakuru County lying in the north-west of Nairobi County.
It is popular with flower farms as well as the freshwater Lake Naivasha.
It is also famed for its cosmic bird watching experience which attracts hordes of tourists.
In 2007, it was also thrust to the limelight due to bloody clashes that erupted after a presidential dispute between Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga.
Of late, the town has become a favourite weekend hideout for lovers, who jet it from places like Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru, It is strategically placed along the Great Rift Valley; 76 km from Nairobi, 63 km from Nakuru and 516 km from Mombasa.
Apart from lovers, many political deals are hatched in the town at the now famous Great Rift Valley Lodge.
According to residents, Naivasha got its name from the indigenous Maasai word; “Nai’posha” which means “Rough Water” or “Rippling waters”.
For tourists, it is always a thrill being in Naivasha visiting such places as Hell’s Gate National Park, Mt Longonot National Park, and Mount Longonot, Lake Naivasha and Crescent Island.
The constituency, known as Naivasha, is represented by fiery politician Jayne Kihara.
