Popular HIV/AIDS activist Phenny Awiti who hails from Kisumu has landed a top job with a State Corporation.
Phenny was appointed as a member of the National AIDS Control Council (NACC), to take part in one of its working group known as The MIPA.
“What a pleasure and honour to be appointed by National AIDS Control Council (NACC), as a Member to take part in one of its Working group; The MIPA! The group ensures as NACC works on HIV and AIDS, people living with HIV are meaningfully engaged,” she shared the good news via her Facebook page.
“I am glad to be a part of NACC and Ministry of Health! Thank you Dr. Nduku Kilonzo and the entire team at NACC, and most of all, NEPHAK! To a Stigma Free Society and more growth,” she added.
Ms Awiti who has been an a HIV/AIDS stigma free society ambassador for a long time, discovered that she was HIV positive way back in 2008 while in form two and describes what she went through to in a a society full of stigma about the infection.
The proud mother of two girls, often posts on social media on embracing positive living for those infected, responsible living for those not affected and preventing stigma.
Besides the new appointment, she is a Weekly Columnist with the Standard Group’s Nairobian and the brand Ambassador at Lake Basin Orthodontic Centre, in Kisumu.
