Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i has announced the transfer of  Kiambu County security chiefs in a bid to curb rising cases of crime in the region.

On Thursday, Matiang’i said that the government is ready to restore order in Kiambu after several incidences of crime were reported in the area. 

He made the announcement when he held a closed-door meeting with top security officers from the affected areas.

The CS held the meeting with top officials at Gatundu South Deputy County Commissioner’s offices. He reiterated that the national government is putting in place different measures to ensure the situation reverts to normalcy. 

He also ordered the Central Regional Commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga to fill all the positions that are remaining vacant in the region as the crime rate case raise concern in different parts of the county. 

He also asked the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to work with other officers at the county to ensure there is no threat of security in the region. 

The CS said that the current state of affairs in the county is a subject of great concern, adding that something needs to be done over the same with immediate effect.

 “What we are witnessing here is very frustrating. Our job, however, is to fix this problem and we shall fix it. I want to assure you that this job will be done,” said Matiang’i, as quoted by Standard.

 The order comes at a time when residents of the area have asked the government to act after the fear of the resurgence of Mungiki Gang members swept across the region.
