Political commentator Brian Weke has sympathized with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga over the tribulations that have succeeded his 2018 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Raila has since gone silent on matters keeping the government in check after the reconciliation, and has been seen to largely support Uhuru's initiatives, unlike in the past where he even led demonstrations against some.
Consequently, his actions have been questioned by a section of Kenyans worried about the direction the nation is taking, with Weke now sating that he pities the former Prime Minister for the pressure he is being put under.
Speaking on Saturday, he said that he is feeling for Raila who is again being criticized for keeping mum, yet he only did the wish of Kenyans who accused him of being troublesome.
"Huwa namhurumia sana Raila, alijipresent 1997, 2007, 2013 na 2017 lakini wakamnyima, ila sasa tena wanamshambulia kwa kunyamaza. (I really pity Raila. They rejected him and denied him the votes when he presented himself in 1997, 2007, 2013 and 2017 but are now again attacking him for keeping silent)," he said.
The commentator was speaking on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Saturday morning.
He bashed leaders and Kenyans allied to the ruling Jubilee Party who have also been queationing Raila, saying that they lack the moral authority to lecture Raila him.
He observed that it is the same group that repeatedly attacked and mocked him and his presidential bid, wondering why they are again opposed to him joining them in Jubilee.
"Raila alisimama Raila akaomba kura lakini wakampa Uhuru, sasa kuna shida gani akiwasaidia kumpenda Uhuru? (He vied but they decided to give their votes to President Uhuru Kenyatta. So what is the problem if he too embraces the president?)," he wondered.
