An Uber driver in Mombasa was on Wednesday, freed on Sh50,000 cash bail by a Mombasa court after being accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old schoolboy.
The Uber driver who operates in the populous area of Nyali had been accused of touching the 13-year-old boy inappropriately.
Media reports suggested that the Uber driver was supposed to pick the child from school and drop him at home but he instead took a detour to Bombolulu, took the boy to an isolated area where he proceeded to molest him.
It was also alleged that the 33-year-old taxi driver forced the little boy to commit an indecent act.
The child's mother raised alarm and reported the case to local authorities after she learned that the man had molested her kid. The child was later taken to Coast General hospital for further check and for a comprehensive police report.
The accused, only identified as Fredrick Mungai, was arrested on Tuesday and taken to Nyali Police Station where he spent the night.
Appearing at the Shanzu law courts on Wednesday, the accused did not take a plea due to a technicality of the charge sheet and was freed on Sh50,000 cash bail.
Uber management has not released a statement on this issue.
