Joseph Ndung’u Njogu, a former Ichagaki Ward representative, has applied for a driver's job at the Murang'a County Assembly.
Njogu served as Ichagaki Ward MCA from 2013 to 2017. He lost the seat in the 2017 elections having spent a total of Sh1.2 million in campaigns.
Njogu revealed that he was left with only a plot with an unfinished building. However, he pointed out that he has been thinking of selling his only properties to sustain himself.
The former legislator noted that before joining politics, he had an electronic shop in Nairobi. He went ahead to sell it to campaign and fortunately, he won in 2013.
"I felt as if it was the end of me. I had used Sh1.2 million for campaigns. I had sold me electronics shop in Maragua town which I had reopened after selling another one in Nairobi. My only wealth was an unfinished building on my plot," he recounts.
He remembers helping people unconditionally after being elected as an MCA. He used all he had in the hope they were going to re-elect him to continue serving them.
After losing his seat, his wife and his father advised him to look for jobs outside his home county (Murang'a County) so that he won't feel humiliated and ashamed.
Fortunatelty, he landed a job in Nairobi where he has been working since he lost his seat in 2017.
"My wife and my father urged me to accept my new status and that’s how I was employed as a storekeeper in Nairobi, thanks to one of my former colleagues,” he added.
Njogu recounts having a lot of friends when he was an MCA. Today, he told the Nation that he lost most of his friends and his phone has since gone silent.
