Confirming the Wednesday night incident Matinyani police commander John Sawe said that other two people escaped unhurt.

He noted that the two were able to swim to safety as the vehicle got swept away. The six were heading home from work and as they tried to cross the river ranging waters swept their pick-up.

He said that so far three bodies have been retrieved from the vehicle while one remains trapped under the vehicle.

"The vehicle is still here three bodies have been retrieved and one is remaining. We cannot use a break down because of the mud here it will get stuck," said Sawe.

"We need some men to get into the water fold your trousers and help retrieve the body it will take a few minutes," he added.

By the time of reporting the remaining body had not been retrieved from the car but residents had joined to help.

The incident comes barely a week after the meteorologist department issued heavy rains advisory.
