Malala, who is among leaders who organized the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) forum at the Bukhungu Stadium on the same day had repeatedly declared that he will not allow any other meeting to take place in Kakamega.

But the remarks have been questioned by Thirdway Alliance Party Secretary-General Frederick Okango who observes that the senator lacks powers to issue such declarations.

"I have watched what the senator has been saying and compared it to his roles as a senator; nowhere does his senatorial roles involve matters to do with rallies (Nimeangalia kile seneta Malala amekuwa akisema na nikaangalia kazi yake seneti; hakuna mahali kazi yake ya useneta inahusiana na mambo ya mikutano)," he said on Radio Jambo, Saturday morning.

Okango observed that its because of such actions that the BBI push risks not serving its intended purpose, as some leaders are now using it to show their political powers.

According to Okango, some politicians are also turning BBI into a ground to fulfill their 2022 political ambitions by being vocal in support or against the initiative, which is wrong.

"The problem is that some people are appearing to be using BBI to endorse their 2022 bids (Shida ni eti inaoekana kuna watu wanatumia BBI kujipigia debe uchaguzi wa 2022)," he added.
