Speaking to members of the press after descending on Kilifi County where he tabled his bill to the county's speaker on Friday, Dr Aukot reminded MCAs of their constitutional responsibility.

"It is important to remind the MCAs that they actually have a constitutional responsibility and duty so they should not accept to be intimidated, to be told it's party politics," the Thirdway Alliance's leader said.

Dr Ekuru Aukot has been on a whirlwind tour of the counties, seeking to impress upon MCAs to consider the merits of his game-changing bill and pass it without allowing themselves to be intimidated.

The bill's fate lies with the 47 county assemblies which if adopted will significantly reduce the number of constituencies and abolish the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Resources will be taken directly to the grassroots where MCAs are.

Critics of the initiative say that Punguza Mizigo will significantly roll back the gains made under devolution.

Garissa Township Member of Parliament Aden Duale warned Garissa MCAs against passing the bill.

Veteran opposition leader and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has urged Kenyans to ignore Aukot's bill and wait for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) committee to release its report.
