KPL defending champions Gor Mahia FC thrashed Mount Kenya United 4-1 on Wednesday, in a match that was played at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.
Ugandan midfielder Erissa Ssekisambu bagged a hattrick for K'ogalo, with Dennis Oliech scoring from the spot.
Oliech, also known as 'The Menace', has now silenced his critics, as he has scored in two consecutive matches. There were questions over his signing by the current champions, but he seems to be getting in well with the team.
Gor Mahia are now placed 4th in Kenya Premier League standings with 13 points. Mathare United still leads the table, with Bandari and Western Stima coming 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Moses Odhiambo gave Mount Kenya their only goal of the match, in what can be termed as a slow start to the new season by the club, formerly Nakumatt FC. The team is still tailing and struggling to get their first win after 8 matches.
Gor Coach Hassan Oktay knew he had to collect the three points, and fielded his strongest first eleven. Among the starters were Skipper Harun Shakava and Josh Onyango, who will not be involved in the CAF return leg in Cameroon over the weekend.
Kogalo will face New Stars Doula of Cameroon in their second leg, having won the first match 2-1 in Nairobi.
