A lady from Kisumu has expressed frustrations she went through in the hands of her former employer, after she was forced to wash a corpse while working as a house help in Nairobi.
27-year-old Peninah Awuor from Kisumu’s Nyahera area recounted how his former employer Mohammed Abdi Noor together with his wife tasked her with an unlikely chore of cleaning a body stacked under their bedroom.
“I had searched for a job for a while before I got one at Noor’s house after being connected through a bureau. I knew the work was keeping the house clean and taking care of the children,” she says in a YouTube video shared by Standard Digital Videos (SDV).
“One week later, Noor’s wife told me that they had a new assignment for me, which her husband would brief me later,” she added.
Peninah noted that in the evening, Noor came back and summoned her into their bedroom.
“He closed the door and asked me to push the bed away from the wall. I stepped on something and when I looked down, I jumped in shock. It was a corpse. He said I’d be required to clean the corpse. When I declined, he shoved his gun at me and said I would do it by force,” she said.
That is how she started washing a corpse at 10:00am every morning for 40 days. Sh500 was added to her initial salary to make it Sh6, 500 per month.
She said that a lot of notes in Sh1, 000 and 500 denominations were ‘always available’ each time she washed the corpse.
“Noor’s wife warned me against taking the money or else I would live to regret it,” said Ms Awuor.
