The body was discovered near a dam in Sengani sub-location on Monday.

Confirming the incident, Matungulu assistant county commissioner James Nyegenye said the body was discovered by members of the public who later raised alarm.

"The child's body was dumped near Savano dam, it could be a day or two old," Nyegenye said.

Nyegenye spoke to this writer on the phone on Monday.

Sengani assistant chief Catherine Mwikali said dogs had fed on half of the body.

She said it is not easy to identify the child's gender due to the body's level of mutilation.

"We can't know whether it's a boy or a girl because half the body has been eaten by dogs," Mwikali said.

Mwikali said the matter was reported to Tala police station.

She revealed that police officers responded in time and moved the body to Kangundo Level 4 Hospital's mortuary.

Nyegenye said police have launched investigations into the matter and to find the child's mother.

He cautioned women against dumping their children after giving birth, asserting that such atrocities won't go unpunished.

"Women, it's sad that one can give birth and throw away the child to be fed on by dogs, so heartbreaking. However, they should know that anyone found culpable, the law won't be lenient on them," Nyegenye said.
