It is not every other day that Homa Bay County hits global headlines. It took the fart of an MCA to see Homa Bay on the pages of leading international news outlets.
The Washington Post carried the story in a humourous article on Friday.
"A potent smell stirred a lot of hot air during a debate at Kenya’s Homa Bay County Assembly on Wednesday, forcing the speaker to suspend the session temporarily while air fresheners were brought in. While those attending the debate may be used to hearing calls of “Order!,” the session became much more odor focused as members accused one another of being behind the foul stench, " the Washington Post reported.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported on the finger-pointing after the fouling of the air in the assembly.
It reported how an MCA defended herself saying that she was not the source of the fart.
"Honourable Speaker, one of us has polluted the air and I know who it is," Julius Gaya reportedly told Homa Bay county assembly. But the member he accused of farting is said to have replied:"I am not the one. I cannot do such a thing in front of my colleagues, " the BBC reported.
The Daily Mail, a British tabloid, reported how the Speaker of Homa Bay County Assembly ordered for air fresheners to neutralise the suffocating smell.
"The MP [MCA] in question denied the claims and insisted that 'I cannot do such a thing in front of my colleagues', according to Kenyan media. The speaker hurriedly ordered air fresheners to be brought to the chamber to tackle the problem, " the Daily Mail's report read in part.
