Three suspects linked to the Garissa University terror attack have been found guilty.
One of the suspects was acquitted of the charges levelled against him, after the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence linking him to the attack.
Those convicted are: Rashid Mberesero, Hassan Edin Hassan, and Mohammed Abdi Abdikar.
The court ordered the police to free Sahal Diriy Hussein after the charges against him were dropped.
While delivering his ruling on the matter, trial Magistrate Francis Andayi said the court had proven beyond doubt that the three were constantly communicating before the attack.
The court also noted that the three were aware of the plan to attack the university, and decided not to share the information with the relevant authorities.
“I’m satisfied that the accused persons were members of Al Shabab. The accused persons knew of the plot and were therefore part of the attackers,” ruled the court, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
The prosecution has now embarked on a mission to establish a maximum penalty for the trio ahead of the ruling set for July 3, 2019.
