There was drama at the Sagana Police Station on Monday after Mwea Member of Parliament Kabinga Wachira stormed the station over the disappearance of Miraa worth millions of shillings.
This comes after a lorry ferrying the said miraa was involved in an accident at Makutano Trading Centre on Saturday, leading to the death of a bodaboda operator.
The legislator stormed the station demanding to know why the police had released the Miraa to the owner and seized the lorry only.
"We agreed that all detained vehicles transporting miraa should be held at the police station until the case is solved. It is shocking to me the Sagana police have released the miraa and left the lorry empty," said the lawmaker.
Mwea West Police Commander Stephen Wenda, however, stated that drivers of vehicles transporting miraa found driving carelessly will be held until the court clears them.
He started that his juniors had offloaded the miraa from the vehicle and released it to the owner without his consent.
The incident comes just a few days after Kirinyaga leaders held a consultative meeting aimed at finding solutions to the increasing number of accidents caused by vehicles ferrying miraa.
On Monday, a Probox driver was forced to flee and hide in a police station in Ngurubaini Town, Kirinyaga county after an irate mob attempted to lynch him. The driver who was reportedly speeding hit a trader who sustained serious injuries.
