It has come to the limelight that the deputy president has used at least 20 million in harambees for the last seven days.
The amount is raising questions among Kenyans including politicians. One Facebook user raised the same concern when he posted to the United States of Kiambu Facebook page.
"William Ruto donated 5 million to Nguviu Boys and 5 million to Kamama High both in Embu County..Yesterday he donated 5 million in Tharaka Nithi County. On Friday he donated 5 million in Pumwani Nairobi County. A whooping million in three days!!!!" posted Macharia Wa Githaiga
Some residents though, seem to be supporting the DP's generous hand while others are wondering where he is getting all the money from. Here are some of their reactions:
Joseph Gacheru said: "I support ruto kabisa,,,,,, let him donate."
Faith Nganga said: "He is working he is earning unlike you lazy bug."
Edwin B Reuben said: "Ubaya anapeana alafu anarudi kuchukua tena."
Alice Kamau said: "Tafuna meno tu na hutamzuia afanye kazi kesho tutakuchagua unaonekana wewe ni malaika huwezi iiba."
Stephen Gacheru Kanja said: "He should donate even more to uplift people's standards. However, should it be prooved that the money is ill gotten, the law should apply. It is very possible that in his position, he gets into contact with the who is who in society.
These can be sources of the funds he donates. It happened during the tenure of Mzee Kenyatta (the Gatundu visits)and in Moi's time. The latter would donate massive sums any one given month. The Asian community was outdoing each other to catch his attention (remember the evidence by Kamlesh Patti during the Golden berg Enquiry?) Let's not cast aspersions on the DP in the absence of evidence."
Joseph Ng'ang'a said: "I knew even when I was growing up living in Nakuru County that Kiambu has proud people who boast of proximity to Nairobi but are very far behind in assessing issues and no wonder nowhere else in kikuyu land that young men are wholesale lost in drinking and crime.
Despite having gone to school they cannot figure out how corruption money is extravagantly used in harambees to deceive voters but can only see DP's generosity and cannot even question the source of this money. My parents and their forefathers were born in Kiambu but am grateful to God I was brought up in Nakuru."
Johnathan Murango said: "So he should not be president because he is philanthropic? Wacha upusi bwana."
Shelmith Mumbi Kimani said: "What those have said is a clear indication that majority of Kikuyu's can see the hypocrisy in the sudden "Ruto is a thief" chorus! He joined Uhuru in 2013 mngemwambia ni mwizi SAA hiyo ajue hamtamsupport si kungoja mvukishwe mto mtwambie ni mwizi sahii! Tuliambiwa "Raila ni kimundu" but sai ni "brother" we are following the handshake by saying "Ruto is my brother".
