Mr Munya, a former Meru governor, has been tasked to revive industries in Nyanza region, with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga backing the move

In the meeting, the governor sought assistance from Munya to have coffee debts waived to have the farming getting back to the track after years of struggle.

Coffee farming is on its lows in Nyamira, with several farmers having lost hope by uprooting the crop or simply bowing out due to challenges.

"Agriculture is one of the Big 4 agenda of the governor. Meeting trade CS was basically anchored on reviving coffee farming through writting off debts," the communication team reported.

"The governor asked the minister to assist in the process so that coffee farming can be revamped in Nyamira. This will help farmers get their accumulated dues," added the statement.

Pyrethrum farming which has almost become extinct in Nyamira also featured with the governor briefing the minister about plans to revive the sector.

Nyagarama was accompanied by ministers Douglas Bosire, John Omanwa, Samuel Maiko and Johnstone Obike. Earlier, they had met officials at the Energy ministry.
