The Bomet Governor died on Monday at Nairobi Hospital after years of battling ovarian cancer, and her body is set to be interred in Fort Tenan, Kisumu County on Saturday.

Speaking at All Saints Cathedral on Thursday, Dr Ruto said that the former Sotik MP was in great pain, and that nothing could be done to save her life after a long struggle.

Before being admitted at Nairobi Hospital, Dr Laboso sought treatment in London and India, but she had to finally jet home where she was admitted at HDU.

"What was humanly possible by the family and by friends, to be done for our sister Joyce, was done and finally, we had to surrender to God's will. Because of the difficulty she was going through, she had to rest," he said.

"Joyce Laboso was courageous and God-fearing; she walked the journey of life with honour, dedication and selfless service to humanity. She was level-headed, resourceful, collected and a calming influence. Laboso was worthy, a great mentor and a special leader. Dr Laboso's remains were flown to Sotik on Thursday after the service, and residents are set to give her last respect after serving them as MP for 10 years.

On Friday, there will be another huge mass at Bomet Green Stadium where several leaders are expected to attend. She was first elected in 2008 to serve as Sotik MP after the death of her sister Lorna Laboso.
