Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria left mourners at veteran footballer Joe Kadenge's funeral in stitches as he observed how easy it is for him to move around the country without fear.
Speaking in Vihiga on Saturday, the controversial legislator said that before the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga he could not freely move.
He made a tongue-in-cheek comment about how one had to show that they were members of ODM to visit places where the party commanded a huge following like Western Kenya.
"Because those days to come to this place you had to produce a visa and the visa was ODM. (Maanake wakati huo kutembea hapa ilikuwa unatoa visa na visa ilikuwa ODM)," the lawmaker said triggering laughter among the mourners.
Kuria thanked President Uhuru and his erstwhile political adversary for embracing the handshake, saying that the handshake had brought about peace and made it easier for Kenyans to move freely.
The MP was a strong critic of Raila Odinga before the dramatic handshake, criticism that saw him thrown behind bars as his criticism was seen to be inciteful.
He took time to disparage the so-called Tangatanga and Kieleweke groups, saying that he did not belong to either.
